LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — At least two people were shot near a church that was holding a funeral Wednesday afternoon in Louisville’s Smoketown neighborhood.

 

Louisville Metro Police confirmed the shooting was reported about 2:15 p.m. in the 600 block of Lampton Street. Spokesperson Aaron Ellis said the shooting happened outside the Bates Memorial Baptist Church in a parking lot and nearby alley.

 

“It is disrespectful. It is like nobody has any morals, no value, no respect for human life,” Shanika Clayton, who attended the funeral, said. “It is like it is a game, it is not fair.”

A neighbor who lives across the street from the church said she heard dozens of gunshots.

 

“It’s terrible,” the woman said. “I am scared for my life. I’m scared to take out my trash. I’m scared to walk to the corner store and I just live right there. I’m scared. They need to do something!”

Officers arrived and looked for victims were notified that a man had shown up at UofL Hospital in downtown Louisville in a private vehicle. He was alert and conscious, according to police.

 

Investigators were notified that a second man who had been shot arrived at the hospital in a private vehicle. The male was also alert and conscious, according to police.
