Tigers rocket up MLB broadcaster rankings thanks to ‘wonderful’ Jason Benetti

spoken, the Detroit Tigers have the most-improved broadcast team in Major League Baseball.

Awful Announcing, a news source focused on the sports media industry, released its annual local broadcaster rankings for MLB on Monday.

More than 13,000 votes were cast, with fans and readers weighing in on their favorite and least favorite broadcast teams. And it was the Tigers who made the biggest move when compared to 2023.

According to the poll, the Tigers’ revamped broadcast team led by prized free agent Jason Benetti ranks No. 10 this year. That represented a massive jump over the Matt Shepard-led booths, which finished 28th in 2019 and last (30th) in 2023.

“The biggest surprise in this year’s rankings is that the Tigers have checked in with their best grade and rank ever,” author Joe Lucia wrote. “You can thank the wonderful Jason Benetti for that one. He elevates every broadcast he’s on, and if the Tigers opt to pair him with a consistent partner in 2025, Detroit might rise even higher.”

The Tigers have had a rotating crew of former Tigers serve as analysts alongside Benetti, including Kirk Gibson, Todd Jones, Carlos Pena and Dan Petry
