KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A multiacre fire that forced some people in Sevier County to evacuate Thursday evening is now 100% contained, officials said Friday.
The Sevier County Emergency Management Agency said Friday afternoon that the fire that spanned 30-40 acres in the area of Little Cove Road and Pine Mountain Road was 100% contained.
The Wears Valley Fire Department had advised Parkside Resort and anyone within a two-mile radius to evacuate around 6 p.m Thursday.
Around 9 p.m., Parkside Resort said all guests were cleared to return to their cabins. Parkside Resort Operations manager Brandy Hanwell said the fire was on resort property and first responders had evacuated more than 200 people.
Just before 9:30 p.m., fire officials from Pigeon Forge said the fire was 45% contained and that anyone who has evacuated may return to their residences. In addition, the rain provided assistance to Emergency Personnel.
Sevier County EMA said smoke and fire may be visible from a distance overnight and crews continued to monitor the fire throughout the night hours.
A shelter was set up at the Pigeon Forge Community Center, 170 Community Center Drive, according to the Sevier County Emergency Management Agency.
