SANTEE, Calif. — Investigators sought today to determine what caused a solo weekend car crash that killed a 48-year-old man driving an antique convertible near Willowbrook Country Club.
The motorist lost control of the 1932 Ford Roadster on a connector from Riverford Road to southbound state Route 67 in the Santee area about 8:40 p.m. Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The car, which was not equipped with seat belts, veered off the ramp, went down a dirt embankment and overturned, ejecting the driver. The El Cajon resident hit a wooden post and died at the scene. His name was withheld pending family notification.
Intoxication was not believed to have been factor in the accident, CHP public-affairs Officer Kevin Pearlstein said.
