We have talked to him, like we have with a lot of other people,” Lingard remarked. “We have had conversations with agents in Australia, but the fact that there aren’t many publicized accounts of the people we have talked to indicates that we are operating our business properly.
“He meets our requirements exactly. If we want to bring in an NRL player with 150 games played in specific positions—halfbacks, fullbacks, and centers, for example—those players command a ridiculous amount of money.”
Lingard conceded that the team is unable to acquire representative quality through outside means.
“We are unable to acquire a player who has represented Australia, Queensland, or New South Wales. Players with the ability to play that many games must be added if we are going to bring in more players.
We won’t approach and talk to every individual who is associated with us on social media. We are extremely selective about the individuals we identify with.
