The Baltimore Ravens, who are never afraid to add a proven veteran to the mix, are adding a former All-Pro to their defense to bolster it.
Security Eddie Jackson and Baltimore have reached an agreement on a one-year contract, according to a Friday report from NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.
Reunited with linebacker Roquan Smith, Jackson has played in two Pro Bowls during his seven seasons with the Chicago Bears. He will add depth to a safety room that already includes rising star Kyle Hamilton and seasoned Marcus Williams.
The 30-year-old Jackson was selected by the Bears in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft and rose to prominence as one of the league’s best safeties for a while. The Alabama product was a Pro Bowl player both that season and the following and was named an All-Pro in 2018.
Despite missing ten games in 2022–23 due to foot problems that had hindered him over the previous two campaigns, Jackson still managed to record 80 tackles and four interceptions in the 2022 season.
It’s a classic Ravens approach to take a chance on an established defensive veteran with a late-season addition. In previous seasons, they’ve had success in comparable circumstances with players like Calais Campbell, Jason Pierre-Paul, Jadeveon Clowney, Kyle Van Noy, and Rock Ya-Sin.
Jackson, who saw success during his time in Chi-Town, was released in February and is currently headed to a new team and conference.
For Jackson, who has only been in one postseason game in his career and leaving behind a Bears team that is rebuilding, it will be a huge adjustment. He will now be trying to support a club that has its eyes set squarely on winning the Super Bowl.
