Five Strong💪 true freshmen who could make an immediate impact for Oklahoma football

Five true freshmen that could see the field and make an impact for the Sooners this season.

With summer training wrapping up and fall camp just around the bend, all eyes are on Oklahoma football’s highly anticipated 2024 season in the SEC. Brent Venables and colleagues have been preparing for the shift since he was hired in December of 2021, making significant recruitment efforts each year to get the roster ready for the sport’s best league. With that in mind, with another top-10 recruiting class in 2024, here are five true freshman to keep an out on this fall.

No. 5 RB Taylor Tatum Taylor Tatum, a two-sport star, appears to be on his way to becoming a household name in Norman; it just takes time. The No. 1 running back in the 2024 class and No. 48 overall prospect signed with Oklahoma football in December and officially joined the club this summer.

While not having spring ball diminishes his chances of seeing the field right away in Year 1, Tatum’s skill may outweigh the disadvantage. Gavin Sawchuk leads DeMarco Murray’s locker room, but the No. 2 position is entirely up to competition. Jovantae Barnes, Kalib Hicks, and Samuel Franklin will all compete for carries, but Tatum will be heard from during fall camp. If OU does what they should early in the season and wins comfortably, don’t be surprised if Tatum gets an opportunity to earn additional playing time. ‌
