Bryan Clauson, top dirt-track racer, dies from a terrible crash injuries

INDIANAPOLIS: Bryan Clauson, who was regarded as the nation’s best dirt-track racer, passed away due to injuries he sustained in an accident in the Belleville, Kansas, USAC Midget Nationals midget race. His age was 27. Monday morning at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, word of his passing was released. It was read a statement from his family stating that Clauson passed away on Sunday night. “Our Bryan fought to the end with the same desire that he demonstrated behind the wheel of all the various race cars he would park in victory lane,” the statement read. “However, we were more proud of our Bryan that took a moment to make a young fan’s day, or demonstrated his uncommon kindness and appreciation toward his friends, family and fans.” On Saturday, Clauson was leading the race.

This year, Clauson planned to compete in 200 races. In 116 starts, he won 27 times, and in the May Indianapolis 500, he led three laps. In his brief career as a stock-car driver for NASCAR, Clauson made 26 starts in the Xfinity Series between 2007 and 2008. In 2008, he participated in two races at Daytona; he placed sixth in the opening race of the Xfinity Series in February and won the pole but finished 19th in the mid-season event in July. Clauson continued to compete in USAC’s national series while the scholarship secured him six Indy Lights appearances in 2011 at Sam Schmidt Motorsports in a car shared with current IndyCar Series rookie Conor Daly.
