LSU redshirt freshman edge rusher Jaxon Howard told the coaching staff he will enter the NCAA transfer portal when it opens next week, a source confirmed with The Advocate.

Howard, the No. 131 overall player in the 2023 class, played in five games last season. He recorded a tackle and a quarterback hurry in the ReliaQuest Bowl against Wisconsin.

Howard, a Minnesota native, spent spring practice as a backup defensive end. He has four years of eligibility. 247Sports first reported the news Wednesday.

Howard is the first LSU player to decide to enter the transfer portal during the spring window, which runs from April 16-30. Players only have to enter by then. They can take more time to choose a new school.

Howard’s dad, Willie, played at Stanford and on the Minnesota Vikings before an injury ended his career.
