Dog killed, driver injured in alleged drunk driving crash in Ponca City

The Ponca City Police Department says it responded to a single-vehicle accident just before 5 a.m. on Monday near the 14th Street and Hartford intersection.

“We appreciate the public’s concern for the motorist involved in this incident and we want to express our gratitude for your assistance with multiple lane closures during your morning commutes,” Ponca City said in a Facebook post.

At this time, investigators believe that the driver of the vehicle was intoxicated.

 

After the accident, the driver was transported by helicopter to Saint Francis in Tulsa due to injuries sustained.

 

Authorities say the vehicle drove off the road after hitting a curb, causing it to roll multiple times.

 

The vehicle rolled multiple times and eventually came to a stop in a home’s yard after the driver was ejected.

 

Police say there were two dogs in the vehicle at the time of the accident, one of which did not survive.

The investigation into a significant motor vehicle accident is a complicated process and we have multiple resources within our agency concentrating their efforts into this incident. This is an ongoing investigation, and although we are committed to keeping our streets safe, we must use this opportunity to remind all citizens that driving intoxicated is never a good option. Ponca City is a great community and we implore each of you to use good judgment and consider the safety of others when operating a vehicle.
