Braking News:Israeli strike kills senior rescue-service official in Gaza

September 8, CAIRO (Reuters) – Mohammad Morsi, the deputy director of the Gaza Civil Emergency Service in the northern parts of the Gaza Strip, and four members of his family were murdered on Sunday by an Israeli attack on a residence in Jabalia, according to health officials. According to a statement from the Civil Emergency Service, Morsi’s passing brought the total of its members killed by Israeli fire since October 7 to 83. Israel did not immediately remark on Morsi’s passing. In the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City, which is five kilometers from Jabalia, residents reported that Israeli soldiers had also detonated other houses. Medical teams stated that they were unable to respond to frantic calls from residents who claimed to be injured and stuck inside their homes. “We constantly hear He declined to be identified but told Reuters via a messaging app, “The occupation is wiping out Zeitoun, we are afraid about the people trapped in there.” Israel and Hamas persisted in blaming one another for the mediators’ inability to achieve a ceasefire, including Qatar, Egypt, and the United States. The United States is gearing up to make a fresh proposal, but chances of a breakthrough seem slim as long as differences in viewpoints don’t close. In the meantime, the United Nations extended its campaign to vaccinate children against polio in the southern Gaza Strip by one day on Sunday before moving it to the northern Gaza Strip on Monday in coordination with local health officials. The goal of the campaign is to vaccinate 640,000 children in Gaza following the first occurrence of polio in about 25 years. The effort has been able to continue because of brief breaks in the combat. After reaching more over half of the kids in need of the drops in the first two phases in the southern and central Gaza Strip, U.N. officials said they were making progress. Four weeks following the initial vaccine round, a second round will be necessary.
