Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers’ win over Michigan football serves humble pie to jaded Ohio State fans — Jimmy Watkins

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Look at senior quarterback Quinn Ewers now, singing the fight song on Michigan’s home turf. Look at him greeting road fans who descend from their scoreboard seats to field level. Look at him spelling/signaling his school’s letters in enemy territory, just like we always imagined.

Weird way to spell Ohio. Buckeye fans claimed a victory — or, at minimum, delighted in a defeat — when Ewers led Texas to a 31-12 romping of Michigan on Saturday. Every Michigan loss is an Ohio State win. But a Michigan beat down hits like Christmas in Columbus, no matter the setting or jersey colors. But when said beat down ends a 23-game home winning streak? Jingle bells. When it’s administered by a former Ohio State commit?

“I understand the rivalry that Ohio State has with Michigan and to kind of carry that along [sic] through the week,” Ewers said. “I understand how it goes. So it’s definitely cool coming back here, because the because the last time I was here, it didn’t end up going the team I was on’s way.”

Hear that last part? Catch the lack of acknowledgement? It means Buckeye fans can’t claim Ewers now, three seasons after he transferred from Ohio State to Texas, just because he took the pound of Michigan flesh OSU fans are craving. You can’t take back the mean tweets posted and direct messages sent when Ewers decided to leave Columbus, either. And you can’t convince anybody (certainly not me) that Buckeye fans believed Ewers would reach similar heights — if not higher ones — at Texas than Ohio State would without him.
