😭😭😭Bryce Canyon ranger dies in accident at Astronomy festival

A ranger at Bryce Canyon National Park died after falling during Friday’s Astronomy celebration due to a slip and fall. Around 11:30 p.m., Ranger Tom Lorig fell and struck his head on a big rock while he was guiding a guest to a shuttle bus, according to the National Park Service. The visitor saw him unresponsive and alerted a law enforcement ranger who was nearby. Despite their best efforts, NPS rangers, medically trained bystanders, and local EMS were unable to bring Ranger Lorig back to life.

Tom Lorig was an interpretive park ranger for Bryce Canyon, the National Park Service, and the general public. He helped to bridge the gap between the outside world and these unique locations that he cherished. “As our community comes to terms with this tragic loss and offers our sincere condolences to Ranger Lorig’s family and friends,” stated Park Superintendent Jim Ireland. We also thank the emergency services personnel from Garfield County and the National Park Service for their prompt response, as well as the onlookers who helped the NPS first responders.
