Written  On Tuesday night, Ricky Brindley, a 2001 Pisgah graduate who spent six seasons coaching football at Smoky Mountain, was announced as the next head coach of the Pisgah football team. The next head football coach at Pisgah is Ricky Brindley, a 2001 graduate who has spent the last six seasons as Smoky Mountain’s head coach.

“I really wanted to trust God in the process. When it was His time, it was His time. It was not about me trying to force that will,” he said. “I wanted to be faithful and committed to where I was, and to those kids and that community because Smoky Mountain High School has been good to me.”

Brindley won’t be in Canton just to coach at Pisgah. He was an assistant football coach for seven years, serving as coordinator of both the offensive and defensive teams. Brindley was an assistant softball coach in addition to coaching men’s and women’s track and men’s golf.

It will be a smooth transfer, he claimed, because of those experiences and the fact that he already knows some of his new assistant coaches. “Our past relationships will play a significant role in strengthening our bond and friendship,” Brindley stated.

Brindley takes over for Brett Chappell, who led the Bears for ten years before stepping down in November. Brindley had previously served as Chappell’s coach. Chappell made ten consecutive playoff appearances to cap off his ten-year career.Coach Chappell’s work as a coach at Pisgah High School deserves a lot of respect,” Brindley remarked. “I was so lucky to have worked for him, and it was an amazing success. I take great pride in the achievements it has made in the past ten years.
