New York State Trooper remains hospitalized after Friday crash in Niagara Falls

A New York State Trooper remains hospitalized after being hit while on his motorcycle on State Route 93 and the Niagara Scenic Parkway Friday afternoon.

State police officials say that Sergeant Station Commander Salvatore Mattina is going through a critical and complex medical situation with multiple surgeries ahead.

Mattina, a 10-year veteran of the State Police, was operating a safety run on a motorcycle for the Mercy Flight Western New York Dice Run.

According to police, the 69-year-old driver of a 2010 Chevrolet did not yield the right of way to the police motorcycle. The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police say they do not believe alcohol was involved.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.

According to police, Mattina has suffered multiple fractures, internal bleeding, and organ damage. This includes broken bones in his face, arm, pelvis, legs and sternum, along with a brain injury
