WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WPRI) — Four people have died and two others were seriously injured following an early morning crash in Connecticut.
According to a report, around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Connecticut State Police were called I-95 in West Haven for a report of a car crash.
A preliminary report from the scene showed that the accident was a result of a wrong-way driver traveling north in the southbound lanes.
Investigators say the wrong-way vehicle, a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, collided with Nissan Altima in the left lane.
Following the initial crash, the Chevrolet Silverado the went into the center lane and struck a Nissan Sentra.
The driver of the Silverado and the three people the Altima suffered fatal injuries.
The two people in the Sentra had life-threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries.
The people involved in the incident are not being identified at this time.
All lanes of I-95 South were shut down for several hours.
The accident is still under investigation at this time.
