Man shoots teen with rifle after alleged robbery at market near Percy Priest Lake, police say

The man told MNPD the teen pulled a pistol and robbed him outside of the market.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) is continuing to investigate the shooting of a 17-year-old boy outside of a market near Percy Priest Lake Monday night.

Police said the teen was a robbery suspect who was wounded by a 20-year-old outside of a market on Smith Springs Road. The man told MNPD the teen pulled a pistol and robbed him.

The man’s mother contacted someone at MNPD during the night who has been closely involved in outreach to the Hispanic community to report what her son told her about the shooting.

Police said officers went to the home, recovered a rifle involved and interviewed the man. He reported leaving the market with his girlfriend and walking to his pickup truck. That’s when the teen approached the passenger side of the vehicle and robbed him at gunpoint.

The man told officers that’s when he retrieved a rifle from his truck, walked over to the teen and shot him after he believed the teen was going for the pistol.

“A nine-millimeter semi-automatic pistol was found in the 17-year-old’s clothing. The 20-year-old said he retrieved his belongings and drove away,” police said.

MNPD hasn’t been able to interview the teen due to his medical condition. No charges have been placed against the 20-year-old as of now.

“This case will be staffed with the District Attorney’s Office in the near future,” MNPD said.
