Sad news: 4 Men killed, two others injured in terrible crash near Grant Park

A man was killed and two other people were seriously injured when a car slammed into a minivan last week at Balbo and Lake Shore Drive near Grant Park.

 

About 1:15 a.m. Friday, the car was northbound on Lake Shore when its driver tried to make a left turn onto Balbo in front of the minivan, which was heading south, according to Chicago Police.

 

The vehicles collided head-on, flipping the car over. Firefighters had to extricate three people from the car, authorities said. The 28-year-old woman driving the minivan was not hurt.

 

Leon L. Williams, 27, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he died at 2:02 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the South Shore neighborhood.

 

The driver of the car, a 29-year-old woman, was take in serious condition to Northwestern and a 28-year-old man was taken in Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said.

 

The woman, Chyna Bell of the South Shore neighborhood, was charged with one misdemeanor count of DUI and cited for operating a motor vehicle without insurance, and making an improper left turn, according to police. She is scheduled to appear in traffic court April 25 at 50 W. Washington.

 

The investigation is ongoing by the police Major Accidents Investigation Unit.
