Sadly: Man, woman killed in crash following Utah National Park road rage incident

The road rage incident started between the driver of a Nissan Maxima and the driver of a Ford F-150 at the City Center on Sunday afternoon.

Police said it then continued for five miles onto State Route 73.

The driver of the F-150 reportedly got into the emergency lane before slamming into the Nissan Maxima traveling in the eastbound lane.

Once the driver of the Maxima slammed on their breaks, officials said the Ford driver lost control and went into the westbound lane, head-on into a Porsche.

“It was a very violent crash, the two occupants in the passenger car who died really didn’t have any chance as they came across where the impact happened,” Spencer Cannon with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office. “Then their car ended up about another 20 feet or so back from the direction, they were coming in in the first place.”

Deputies said they are still trying to pinpoint how the road rage incident originated.

There were witnesses who saw what happened, and we are evaluating what they have to say and comparing the evidence we see here at the scene,” Cannon said.

The accident happened near mile marker 30 at around 1:30 p.m. Both directions of SR-73 were blocked off for nearly six hours.

The driver of the F-150 was in the hospital with serious injuries, and once he is released, Cannon said he will be facing charges.
