UPDATE: Sheriff’s office IDs two people killed in SUV crash on Knott Road

The Dodge Durango veered off the road and struck a tree on Knott Road, killing two persons, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office on Friday morning. The driver, Bobby J. Jones, 64, of Gilchrist, and the passenger, Tami M. Jones, 61, of Gilchrist, were named by the sheriff’s office on Saturday as the two people killed in the collision.

Around 10:45 a.m., the Durango was heading east when it tried to pass a commercial vehicle by going over the center line, according to the sheriff’s office. As it moved back into the eastbound lane of traffic, it clipped the car and nearly collided with a westbound pickup truck. The Durango then slammed the tree after veering off the road. Deputies found that the Durango’s driver was at fault. Knott Road was closed for a while while the inquiry was conducted.
