Sad news: Two Killed, following Brutal Car Crash in Amsterdam

The Amsterdam Police Dept. said a woman was killed Friday after she ran her vehicle into the back of a tractor trailer that was stopped at a red light.

Police said Joanna Maciariello, 64, of Clifton Park, ran the pickup truck she was driving into the back of the tractor trailer, which was stopped at a red light on Market Street. The accident occurred around 10:39 a.m.

“Ms. Maciariello was pinned inside the cab of the pickup truck she was operating and had to be extricated by members of the Amsterdam Fire Department,” said the police in a statement Friday afternoon.

Maciariello was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam where an autopsy will be performed, police said. It’s unclear if she died at the scene of the accident, en route to St. Mary’s or after arriving at the hospital.

The tractor trailer was being driven by Christopher Baker, 47, of Massachusetts. It’s unknown if Baker sustained any injuries.

Amsterdam police said an investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
