It’s thought that 14 more miners are still underground. On Saturday night, a blast occurred at the coal mine located in Tabas, around 540 kilometers (335 miles) southeast of Tehran, the capital. Miners on Sunday sobbed as they stood next to the mine cars that raised their coworkers’ remains.

The latest number of bomb fatalities and the number of unaccounted for were released by the state-run IRNA news agency on Monday. Still covered in coal dust, survivors spoke to Iranian official television about the chaotic aftermath of the explosion.

We were working down in the mine. One miner, who wished to remain anonymous on state television, reported, “Abruptly, I noticed some smoke rising… then I noticed I was having trouble breathing.” “I leaped out of the workshop and stumbled till I arrived at a safe place. My friends were still there.

Authorities said a sudden leak of methane gas led to the blast as workers began their work. They said mine gas checks Saturday night did not show any leakage before the explosion. Bodies recovered so far showed no signs of blast injuries, suggesting many of the workers died from the gas before the blast.
