A man is dead following a crash Tuesday at U.S. 41 south of Gulf City Road in Ruskin.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at 5:45 a.m. a Nissan Altima was traveling north on U.S 41 while a Dodge Ram driven by Herbert H. Beckum Jr., 59, of Dover was traveling south.
Troopers say for unknown reasons the Nissan crossed over the median into the path of the pickup truck. Both vehicles were thrown against a guardrail. The Nissan cut in half and one of the pieces struck the truck again, causing it to catch fire.
Beckhum was taken to South Bay Hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the Nissan, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, died at the scene.
