27-year-old woman killed in California City after being struck by a car

CALIFORNIA CITY, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) —

A 27-year-old woman was killed after getting struck by a car in California City Wednesday night.

The California City Police Department said on November 29, 2023, at around 6:26 p.m., officers were called to a crash between a vehicle and a person on California City Boulevard near Deep Well Street.

When officers arrived, they found a woman, identified as 27-year-old Leah Makiah Ida Phillips, lying on the eastbound dirt shoulder of California City Boulevard.

Cal City police said life-saving measures were performed but Phillips died from her injuries.

Police said an investigation found that Phillips was a driver of a vehicle when for unknown reasons, she pulled over, got out of her vehicle, and ran into traffic before getting hit by a 2019 Toyota Avalon.

The driver of the Avalon, identified as a 73-year-old Mojave man, remained on scene and cooperated with investigators.

Cal City police said speed and/or alcohol are not considered factors in the crash.
