killed, 2 critically injured in Route 57 crash

ELYRIA TWP. — Two people are dead and two were left seriously injured after a two-car collision on state Route 57 on Thursday afternoon.

 

According to officials, the crash occurred just after 3 p.m. when a gray Nissan Altima that was allegedly fleeing from Elyria police ran a red light at the intersection of state Route 57 and Griswold Road, where Elyria and Elyria Township meet.

 

Witnesses said that the Altima was driving along the left shoulder of Route 57 when it ran the red light, hitting a blue Toyota Corolla that was turning left onto Griswold Road. The Corolla was being driven by Robert Vormelker, 48, of Lorain, according to the patrol.

 

The driver of the Altima was identified as Brandan Ryan, 40, of Amherst, according to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The two passengers of the Altima, Tanner Smith, 36, of Cleveland and Meghan Incorvaia, 36, of Wakeman, were both killed in the crash.
