“DOG SHOT WITH ARROW: Shocking Animal Cruelty Case in Wayne County”

WOOSTER — Law enforcement officials want to know why a yellow Labrador retriever was shot with an arrow in northeastern Ohio.

Capt. Doug Hunter said Wayne County sheriff’s deputies were contacted Wednesday evening after the dog was found by a neighbor in Chester Township with the arrow protruding through the dog.

“Amazingly… the dog survived,” Hunter said, as he explained the arrow penetrated the dog near its heart and lungs. “All we know is the dog was shot for no justifiable reason. I believe it was done on purpose with the intent to kill this dog.”

Hunter discussed the case in a Facebook video.

The neighbor who found the dog contacted its owner, and the dog was quickly taken to a veterinarian.

Photographs of the dog were provided by the owner to the sheriff’s office.

The dog appears to have been hit with an arrow from a conventional compound bow, with a practice tip, which Hunter said most likely saved the dog’s life; had it been a broadhead tip the dog might not have been so lucky.

The owner told deputies that the dog typically runs loose behind a wireless fence throughout the yard, but somehow the dog escaped across the wireless fence.

Hunter was not aware of any neighbor complaints regarding the dog.

“We have some information we are following up on,” Hunter said, but he added authorities are hopeful of more leads to solve this case
