Sad News: Cleveland Browns mourns the death of a QB who is involved in a brutal car crash

Ahead of the current NFL season, the Cleveland Browns struck a stadium naming rights deal to play in a venue called Huntington Bank Field for the next twenty years. The name would stay with the team if it relocates, which the Browns are now actively pursuing. It all comes amid two different multi-billion dollar stadium proposals—one from Browns ownership for suburban construction and another from Mayor Justin Bibb for downtown renovation—that would reshape both the franchise and the city.

Earlier this summer, the Browns unveiled plans for ​​a $3 billion-plus mixed-use development and entertainment complex anchored by a $2.4 billion domed stadium in Brook Park. The proposed site, near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, is less than 15 miles from downtown Cleveland. The 175-acre parcel, secured under an option by Haslam Sports Group (HSG), is positioned to host year-round events and drive economic growth. With convenient access to highways, railroads, and rapid transit, the stadium is envisioned as a catalyst for new development and community impact. The Haslams have pledged $1.2 billion in private investment to the stadium project, which would be the third-largest private contribution to an NFL stadium, after SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The remaining half of the funding is expected to come from public sources backed by tax revenues generated over the initial stadium lease period.

 

The Brook Park site, formerly home to two Ford Motor Company plants and supporting thousands of jobs, has sat vacant for years. HSG has experience with redevelopment projects of this sort: the Columbus Crew, a Major League Soccer team also owned by HSG, plays at Lower.com Field, a venue built on the former Municipal Light Plant grounds, a historically significant site that once powered its home city. The stadium anchors an in-progress mixed-use development, Astor Park, which currently features a completed office building and will add residential components in the not-too-distant future.
