Five person killed after semi-truck rolls over on Highway 285 near Conifer, dumps load onto 5 vehicles

Highway 285 will remain closed between County Road 285E and Mile Point 232 through Wednesday morning.

CONIFER, Colo. — Five person was killed after a semi-truck rolled over on Highway 285 Tuesday evening and dumped its load on five vehicles.

Colorado State Patrol (CSP) said troopers were called out for a report of a semi-truck rollover on Highway 285 at milepost 232, south of Conifer, around 5 p.m.

CSP said a semi-truck was headed southbound when it traveled off the edge of the highway, rolled onto its side and dumped its load of pipe and angle iron on top of five other vehicles.

One person inside one of the vehicles struck by the load was pronounced dead at the scene, CSP said.

The semi-truck, its load and the other involved vehicles are blocking Highway 285. The roadway is closed between County Road 285E, roughly five miles south of Aspen Park, and Mile Point 232, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). CSP said the closure will last through Wednesday morning.

Drivers should use South Elk Creek Road to South Foxton Road as a detour.
