2 dead, 3 injured in early Thursday accident in St. Johns County
A red Chevrolet sport utility vehicle suffered heavy front-end damage when it crashed early Thursday on County Road 208 at County Road 13A North.
An early Thursday traffic accident left two people dead and three others injured on County Road 208 at North County Road 13A just west of Indian Trace Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Joey Stevens, 24, and Alyssa Nearbin, who turned 20 Wednesday, died in the 1:20 a.m. accident, the Highway Patrol said. Erin Aderhold, 18, and Dylan Charles, 21 and Hosston Bishop, 21, were injured. All are of St. Augustine and only Nearbin was wearing a seat belt, the Highway Patrol said.
Investigators haven’t determined who was driving as the Highway Patrol continues its investigation.
Their Chevrolet Blazer was heading west on County Road 208 when they failed to negotiate a curve and veered onto a grassy shoulder, the Highway Patrol said. The Blazer hit trees and spun around before it slammed nose-first into another tree and rolled multiple times. Four of the five on board were ejected before the sport-utility vehicle hit a fence and bounced back on 208, according to investigators.
This is close to the same spot where a 23-year-old St. Johns County man died just after midnight Friday in a single-vehicle crash, according to the St. Johns County.
Nearbin’s social media postings show her as a cousin of 19-year-old Ryan Scott Ford, the Pedro Menendez High student killed Jan. 26 in a bonfire brawl.
