A significant step in Kentucky’s efforts to provide safe, regulated access to medical cannabis was taken on November 25 when Governor Andy Beshear announced the outcome of the state’s first medical cannabis dispensary license lottery. The groundwork for a revolutionary new industry was laid when 36 applicants from eight different parts of the state were chosen during the drawing held at the Kentucky Lottery Corporation in Louisville.
Louisville’s home county of Jefferson County’s selectees were conspicuously missing from the initial announcements. But Governor Beshear promised that the Bluegrass and Kentuckiana areas, as well as Louisville and Lexington, will be selected in the second round of the lottery on December 16.
