Sad news :New York Mets coach sacked.

Mickey Callaway’s Major League managerial career was short-lived, but the disgraced former New York Mets skipper’s coaching career in the Mexican League proved to be even shorter.

The 47-year-old ex-coach was fired as the Los Angeles Angels pitching coach in 2021 after numerous sexual harassment allegations were levied against him by female members of the media. An investigation into Callaway led MLB to suspend him indefinitely through at least the 2022 season.

He is currently on MLB’s ineligible list and would need to apply for reinstatement next year.

Callaway initially joined Acereros de Monclova during the winter season and was retained for his first full season this spring — though it didn’t last. Despite the criticism typically wagered against Callaway, the club profusely thanked him for his professionalism through a statement on its website.

“We would not like to make this announcement without first acknowledging the professionalism, discipline and love for baseball with which Mr. Callaway always directed himself during his time leading our team. Mickey arrived at the blue fury to work since the winter with the club’s prospects, developing a great job alongside their coaches, which has allowed the debut of several elements this season; Unfortunately, the results force us to make moves in order to have a season that lives up to the expectations of our fans.

“We want to reiterate our absolute respect and admiration for Mr. Mickey Callaway, to whom we wish much success in his next baseball projects,” concluded the statement.

Callaway spent five years in the Majors as a pitcher, spanning 1999-2004. He’s previously been a coach for the Cleveland Indians, as well as Mets and Angels.
