Live updates: Ray High School students killed in rollover crash

The two Ray High School students killed in a rollover crash after attending a graduation rehearsal Tuesday morning have been identified.

Around 11:24 a.m., Corpus Christi police responded to a crash in the 2300 block of North Port Avenue. They found four males in a white, two-door car on its roof. Two of the males were pronounced dead at the scene.

The two students who died were identified by the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office as Matthew Garcia and Marcello Matthew Saldua, both 18 years old.

The other two students were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their current conditions are unknown.

According to Corpus Christi ISD, the students were traveling to school after attending a graduation rehearsal at the American Bank Center. While the incident is still under investigation, police believe speed was a factor in the crash.

Ray’s graduation ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday. In keeping with CCISD’s tradition of honoring deceased students, chairs will be reserved in the late students’ honor, a news release said.
