Done Deal: Squirrel White signs with Florida State along with two other former Volunteers
Squirrel White has found a new home. The former Tennessee receiver will head south to Tallahassee, set to join the Florida State Seminoles. He will have one season left to play.
White was once thought of as the heir apparent to the electric Jalin Hyatt role, but for a variety of reasons, it didn’t quite pan out like that. Tennessee’s downfield passing attack seemed to leave the program when Hendon Hooker exited to the NFL. White still had a very productive 2023 season, but he took a step back in 2024.
White exits with over 1,600 yards over three seasons. Tennessee will move forward with Chris Brazzell, Mike Matthews and Braylon Staley, likely along with a couple of transfer portal additions.
Florida state was busy with former Volunteers over the weekend, also plucking defensive lineman Jayson Jenkins out of the portal. Jenkins appeared in all 13 games for Tennessee this past season, putting up 3.5 tackles for loss and two sacks. The former three-star prospect will exit Tennessee’s deep defensive line room in search of more playing time.
The ‘Noles also inked former Tennessee linebacker Elijah Herring, who hit the portal once again this offseason. He left Knoxville last season and signed with Memphis, where he was credited with 60 tackles and 3.5 sacks. He’ll turn that production into an opportunity with Florida State, which will be rebuilding after a 2-10 season.
