Shred for Sloan bike ride honors memory of local mountain biker

On a mild-tempered Saturday morning, over 80 cyclists gathered at the McClellan Multi-use Trailhead for the sixth annual Shred for Sloan bike ride, an event that has become a cherished tradition in the local mountain biking community.

The ride honors the memory of Sloan Harmons, a local mountain biker who was killed in a random act of violence in 2019 at the age of 20.

“Sloan was a good riding buddy for me,” said Chase Garrard, the event organizer. “He raced with the Cheaha Mountain Bike team and was good friends with all the locals. When we found out what happened, we kind of threw a little quick ride together, and it’s blossomed into something just huge.”On a mild-tempered Saturday morning, over 80 cyclists gathered at the McClellan Multi-use Trailhead for the sixth annual Shred for Sloan bike ride, an event that has become a cherished tradition in the local mountain biking community.
