Done Deal: Alex Bregman have sign a two years contract with Boston Red Sox worth $78 Million

Alex Bregman enjoyed a strong 2024 campaign with the Houston Astros, finishing the regular season with a .260 batting average, 26 home runs and 75 RBIs. Having effectively entered free agency as soon as the Astros’ season came to an end, it was expected that plenty of teams would be interested in potentially bringing in the two-time All-Star. However, Bregman has seemingly not yet received a satisfactory offer and remains on the market.

One of the teams that were recently in contact with Bregman was the Detroit Tigers, who could do nicely with the third baseman’s experience in what is otherwise a young squad. However, it was reported on Tuesday that the negotiations are at a standstill.

“The Detroit Tigers and Alex Bregman are at a standstill in their negotiations, according to @EvanPetzold,” Boston Sports Gordo tweeted.

Super agent Scott Boras claims there is “substantial interest” for Alex Bregman but teams are “not spending”

Speaking to Bob Nightengale of USA Today on Wednesday, Alex Bregman’s agent, Scott Boras, shed some light on how negotiations between Bergman and various organizations have been progressing. According to Boras, the main reason that Bregman has not received a satisfactory offer is that teams are spending less than they used to.

“Bregman’s a championship player, teams know it,” Boras said. “It’s really a matter of his decision-making and theirs, about how you can close up that gap. There’s substantial interest (in long-term) deals.

“You’re seeing so many teams that are actually not spending. They’re making more, but they’re not spending. They’re spending far less than they did two (or) three years ago. There’s a quadrant as many as 10 to 12 teams that are in that position.”

Having won the World Series twice in his career, several teams could do with Bregman’s expertise in getting the job done in high-pressure situations. However, it remains to be seen if he gets the offer he is looking for or if he will ultimately decide to settle for the next best thing, with the 2025 season inching closer by the day.
