Breaking News:Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Reveals Contract Demands $600 Million
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Reveals Contract Demands Were Less Than $600 Million
Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has shed light on his contract negotiations with the team, revealing that his demands were significantly lower than expected. In an interview with ESPN, Guerrero Jr. claimed that his final asking price was “much less” than Juan Soto’s record-breaking $765 million deal with the New York Mets ¹.
Guerrero Jr.’s contract demands were reportedly below $600 million, with the same number of years as Soto’s contract. The 26-year-old first baseman emphasized that he was looking for a long-term deal, ideally 14 years, but was open to 15 or even 20 years if the terms were right ¹.
The revelation comes after Guerrero Jr. and the Blue Jays failed to reach an agreement on a contract extension before the deadline. Guerrero Jr. will now become a free agent after the 2025 season, with several teams, including the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, already expressing interest ².
Despite the failed negotiations, Guerrero Jr. has expressed his desire to remain with the Blue Jays, citing his love for the city and the team. However, he also made it clear that he is open to exploring other options, saying, “I know the business. I lowered the salary demands a bit, but I also lowered the number of years” ¹.
The Blue Jays have until the end of the 2025 season to try and retain Guerrero Jr.’s services. If they fail to do so, they risk losing one of their brightest stars to free agency. As Guerrero Jr. continues to perform well in spring training, the pressure is on the Blue Jays to make a compelling offer to keep him in Toronto ²
