R&B hitmaker Angie Stone reported dead in a car crash

Angie Stone, the esteemed R&B and soul singer, tragically passed away on March 1, 2025, at the age of 63. The accident occurred near Montgomery, Alabama, when the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van carrying Stone and her band overturned on Interstate 65 and was struck by a Freightliner semi-trailer truck. Stone was the sole fatality in the incident.

 

Born on December 18, 1961, in Columbia, South Carolina, Angie Stone began her musical journey in the late 1970s as a member of the pioneering all-female hip-hop group The Sequence. Their 1979 hit “Funk You Up” marked one of the first charting singles by a female hip-hop group. Stone later joined the R&B trio Vertical Hold, contributing to their 1993 album “A Matter of Time.” She launched a successful solo career with her 1999 debut album “Black Diamond,” which earned her critical acclaim and three Grammy nominations. Throughout her career, Stone continued to release music, with her latest album, “Love Language,” released in 2023.

 

In addition to her musical achievements, Angie Stone ventured into acting, appearing in films such as “The Hot Chick” (2002) and “Ride Along” (2014), as well as television series like “Moesha” and “Girlfriends.”

 

Following Stone’s untimely passing, her children, Diamond and Michael Archer, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from fans and requested privacy during their time of mourning. They are planning a funeral and memorial service to honor their mother’s legacy.
