MARQUETTE TWP, Mich. (WLUC) – New street name signs could be coming to Marquette Township.
At a regular meeting of the Marquette Township Downtown Development Authority on Tuesday, Chair Robert Sved said the current signs are about 20 years old. He says they’re now faded, inconsistent, and don’t adhere to current standards set by the State of Michigan. The authority said it could replace its estimated 20 signs for about $30 to $50 per sign.
Sved says the project is necessary because the current faded signs could have an impact on public safety.
“We think the updates are important so that EMS and fire services will be able to find the buildings they’re looking for and the streets that they need to respond to in an emergency,” said Sved. “It’ll also be safer for those residents in the township when they’re looking for their desired location.”
The authority didn’t take any action on Tuesday, but it plans to discuss the issue again at its next meeting and bring it to the attention of the Marquette Township Board.
