A13 crash and fire leaves man in hospital and traffic delays

A motorbike and car crash on the A13 before a fire created traffic chaos and left a man in

The crash happened on the westbound carriageway near Chafford Hundred around 9am today (April 5).

The fire, ambulance and police were called and firefighters put out a small fire while giving first aid and making the area safe.

The ambulance service then took the rider of the motorbike to hospital with a leg injury thought to be serious and an injured wrist.

The air ambulance also landed though the man was taken away in a road ambul

ance.

Meanwhile, all traffic westbound was held with four lanes closed until the road reopened around midday.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called around 9.05am to a road traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a car on the A13 near South Ockendon.

“Two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance officer vehicle and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were sent to the scene.

The motorcyclist, an adult man, was transported by road to The Royal London Hospital for further treatment for injuries to his leg and wrist.”

An Essex County Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Fire Crews were called to the A13 between the Stifford Interchange and junction 30 for the M25 at just past 9am this morning.

“On arrival firefighters reported that there had been a road traffic collision between a car and a motorcycle.

“Crews worked to extinguish a small fire, give first aid to a casualty and make the scene safe.

“The casualty was left in the care of the Ambulance Service.”

An Essex Police spokesperson said: “We were called to reports of a collision on the A13 at around 8am today (Saturday 5 April).

“It happened at Stifford near to the A126 and A1012 and involved a vehicle and a motorbike.

“The rider of the motorbike has sustained a potentially serious leg injury.
