
There were long delays on the M25 travelling anti-clockwise on Friday afternoon (April 11). Four lanes (of five) were closed on the motorway after a collision and vehicle fire.
The incident between junction 13 for the A30 (Staines) and junction 12 (M3) caused congestion all the way back to Heathrow Airport, with slow traffic on the opposite side due to onlookers. The delays were exacerbated helped by routine congestion at the busy time of day.
Surrey Fire and Rescue, police and the ambulance service were all at the scene, with photos showing crews working on a vehicle on the carriageway.
National Highways initially said that traffic was stretching back for five miles, with delays of 30 minutes. The queues later extended for six miles, with 45 minute delays.
