MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) – The mother of the 18-year-old who died on Saturday night after a shooting involving a Myrtle Beach officer-involved shooting spoke with News 12 sister station, WMBF News, on Monday.
“I can’t eat, I can’t sleep, it’s a pit in my stomach that just won’t go away,” said Jaeishala Fox.
Fox shared how she’s doing less than 48 hours after her son, Jerrius Davis, was killed in a shooting along Ocean Boulvard on Saturday night.
Police said they witnessed an altercation and someone started shooting a gun. The Myrtle Beach Police Department said that’s when an officer also fired their weapon.
Michael Howard was there and said the moments after were harrowing.
“Seeing everything that happened, I was more nauseous. I was in shock. I didn’t know what to do. All I could do was just stand there,” he said.
Fox said she and her husband were coming from Columbia when someone called her and told her that her son had been shot.
She told WMBF News that she received another call later in the night where someone told her he had died.
She said that although someone she knew informed her about her son, it would be several more hours before law enforcement would confirm her son’s death.
“I didn’t find out about my baby. They wouldn’t even confirm anything. Nothing. They knew. They knew. They had me going all around Myrtle Beach to different hospitals. They freaking knew that was my baby. They didn’t tell me anything until about 5:20 that morning,” Fox said.
Fox said her son was a happy person, loved his family, and was the life of the party.
