The State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of a house explosion in Fayette County that killed a woman and seriously injured her husband.
Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies were called Saturday morning to a home in the 1900 block of Good Hope-New Holland Road in Marion Township, where they found the remains of a structure on fire and a debris field surrounding the perimeter that the sheriff’s office said was consistent with an explosion.
Ted Miller, 71, was found blown outside the house and was flown by medical helicopter to a Columbus area hospital, according to the sheriff’s office.
First responders later found Miller’s wife, 70-year-old Patricia, buried in the debris of the home. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Fayette County Deputy Coroner Dr. Brad Dickson, according to the sheriff’s office.
The scene is about 3 miles southwest of New Holland and about 40 miles southwest of Columbus.
Responding and assisting at the scene were Pic-A-Fay Fire Department in New Holland, Washington Fire Department, Wayne Township Fire Department, Concord-Greene Fire Department, Tri-County Fire Department in Mount Sterling, Southwest Pickaway Fire Department in Williamsport, Circleville Fire Department, Fayette County EMS, Fayette County Emergency Management Agency, and Box 65 units from Fayette & Pickaway counties.
