
JUST IN: Cowboys Plot Shock Swoop for Cobbo as Broncos Unrest Grows — Transfer Whispers
The Cowboys are reportedly trying to lure out of favour Broncos star Selwyn Cobbo to North Queensland before the June 30 deadline.
North Queensland powerbrokers have reportedly made inquiries with Cobbo’s camp about an immediate mid-season transfer in the lead-up to Sunday’s clash against the Titans.
The Cowboys backline stocks have taken a hit with Semi Valemei (ankle) and Viliami Vailea (foot) sidelined, while Valentine Holmes left to join the Dragons in the off-season.
The Cowboys are struggling to stay in touch with the finals race after dropping out of the top eight amid a form slump in the last month.
That has prompted under fire coach Todd Payten to explore the open market, with Cowboys bosses launching a poaching raid on Cobbo, who is out of favour under Michael Maguire at the Broncos.

However, the Broncos are digging their heels in and have baulked at a mid-season transfer, with Maguire still hopeful he will remain at the Broncos beyond 2025.

It’s very unlikely that Selwyn Cobbo will remain a Brisbane Bronco beyond this season even though a rival club has pulled out of the race for the outside back’s signature.
After a spate of recent re-signings and several star players on good coin, the Broncos were only able to offer Cobbo $300,000 a year to stay. That’s a pay cut of more than 50% of his current deal ($650,000).
Cobbo’s preference is to stay in Brisbane, but unless he’s willing to take a $350,000 haircut, the 23-year-old will have to move on at season’s end.
In another twist which points towards a Cobbo exit, the have reported that Brisbane have re-signed winger Josiah Karapani on a two-year deal.
Karapani’s form in the Broncos’ two recent wins since replacing Cobbo on the flank has been strong.
Storm outside back Grant Anderson will also join the club from next season.
Cobbo, who was dropped to first grade two weeks ago, hasn’t been able to regain his spot at in the top level.
