BREAKING NEWS: TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS HEAD COACH DECIDED TO SELL ONE OF THE BEST PLAYER REGRADED AS….

Forward Mitch Marner of the Toronto Maple Leafs has been linked to the New York Islanders in one trade proposal, according to trade rumors.

As Marner approaches the last year of his six-year, $65.41 million contract, trade whispers have been swirling around the talented winger. PuckGM is a new tool available on the PuckPedia website that allows users to make their own transactions. A user put up a blockbuster trade in which the Maple Leafs would get Marner from the New York Islanders.

The Maple Leafs receive:

Nelson Brock
Ryan Pulock
Islanders receive:

Mitch Marner, third-round pick (2026) of Timothy Liljegren.
Both teams would be shaken up by the potential deal, which would be a blockbuster. In exchange for Brock Nelson and Ryan Pulock, Toronto would give Marner, defenseman Timothy Liljegren, a previous first-round pick, and a third-round pick.

While Pulock is an improvement over Liljegren and Nelson isn’t quite as good as Marner, Toronto would still be improving its defense. While Pulock is starting the third year of a $49.2 million contract, Nelson is entering the last year of a six-year, $36 million contract.

For both teams, the move makes sense since it allows Toronto to release Marner from his contract, acquire Nelson as a replacement, and strengthen its defense. While Liljegren can help offset Pulock’s loss, New York trades away from a defensive strength to get a better forward in Marner, who can aid their offensive.

Nelson was mentioned as a potential trader.
On August 1, NHL insider Arthur Staple of The Athletic brought up Nelson as a potential trade candidate in his mailbag column.

Nelson is in his last season with the Islanders, and according to Staple, the insider anticipates dealing Nelson if the team isn’t in the playoffs by trade deadline.

“The outcome of the season could determine a lot of the Nelson debate. Nelson jumps to the top of the list of Islanders who may fetch a big return if they are way out of the postseason picture; if they are in, Lamoriello will add players at the deadline, Staple wrote.

“I’m not firmly in the trade camp here, as Nelson has been the team’s most consistent performer over the last five years. A lot depends on this season, Staple continued, unless Lamoriello chooses to extend Nelson before the season starts.

Since being selected 30th overall in the 2012 NHL draft, Nelson has been a member of the Islanders. In 840 NHL games, he has skated and scored 275 goals, 256 assists, and 531 points.

Marner Desires to Stay with the Leafs
Marner has stated that he wants to stay with the Maple Leafs in his hometown, despite all the trade rumors.

Marner made it clear in a media appearance that he intended to stay in Toronto permanently after the team was ousted in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

That would be the objective. I have said how much I adore this city and this place. I have, of course, grown up here. We’ll start considering that right now and working to find a solution. It’s everything to me,” Marner said in a May public statement.
