Community mourning the loss of Kingsport teen after fatal crash

SULLIVAN COUNTY, TN (WJHL) – The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that claimed the life of 16-year-old Morgan Malcolm.

We talked with several people Friday who knew Malcolm, a rising junior at Dobyns-Bennett High School.

“The best way to describe Morgan was she was just a ray of sunshine. I can’t remember a single day that she didn’t come in to the classroom without a big smile on her face, and I never heard heard say an unkind word about anyone,” Malcolm’s former high school teacher Jennifer Emmette said.

Chris Hampton, Dobyns-Bennett’s principal told us:

“The entire Dobyns-Bennett family is saddened by this tragedy. Morgan will always be remembered as a vibrant and happy student who never let anything get her down. She was one who would light up a room and worked very hard in both her classes and in orchestra. Our prayers go out to her family and friends as they share in her memory and celebrate the joy she brought to their lives.”

“I just think DB is going to really miss her and I know all of her teachers, and classmates, and student council members, and orchestra members. there’s going to be a hole there,” Emmette said. “She loved Dobyns-Bennett, she was very active in student council, I just remember on homecoming day she would go out of her way to dress up to show her school spirit, but just a bright light, I mean her smile would light up the classroom every day.”
