Carolina Panthers defensive lineman Derrick Brown and Jacksonville Jaguars offensive tackle Cam Robinson were fined by the NFL for their helmet-yanking dustup, but they weren’t nicked by the league for as much as New York Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. They were among the five players from Alabama high schools and colleges fined by the NFL for actions during Week 17 games. Fines were announced for 11 players by the league on Saturday afternoon.
Brown and Robinson were ejected with 5:03 to play in the Jaguars’ 26-0 victory over the Panthers on Sunday. Robinson described the tussle between the former Auburn defensive lineman and the former Alabama offensive lineman this way: “He just pulled my helmet off, so I pulled his off.”
The league levied two fines against Williams from the Jets’ 37-20 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Dec. 28. The former Alabama All-American was fined $16,391 for a hit on the quarterback on a play for which he was not penalized and Browns QB Joe Flacco threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to running back Jerome Ford.
