Competing this week in the 2024 Polynesian Bowl is Clemson five-star wide receiver enrollee Bryant Wesco of Midlothian (Texas).
Wesco (6-2, 170) enrolled at Clemson in January and his transition from high school to college is already underway.
“It’s been smooth, to be honest. For the most part. I thought it would be a lot more stressful,” Wesco said. “Clemson has made it real smooth. It hasn’t been too complicated.”
Winter workouts haven’t started yet, but Wesco is getting on the field just the same.
“I’ve been going with some of the QBs, running routes and catching from them,” he said. “We haven’t gotten into any plays yet.”
Wesco said he’s been specifically working with redshirt freshman quarterback Christopher Vizzina.
Wesco talked about Clemson’s offense.
“We are going to be great. We are going to be fine. One of the biggest reasons that Clemson had a good finish to the season was because of the preparation. They are going to take that momentum into the next season.”
Wesco was asked if considered that Dabo Swinney might be a candidate to leave Clemson for Alabama after Nick Saban announced his retirement last week.
“At first, I thought he would have been (leaving), but coach Swinney has been here for two decades and I think even more than that. He’s been offered higher positions than Alabama and he hasn’t taken them. So I was confident that he knows Clemson is his home and this is where he wants to be.
Clemson starts up spring ball in February. Wesco was asked if he was excited or nervous to get started.
“All of the above,” Wesco said. “I’m excited to get on the field with great competition. I’m nervous for being it being my first time in college and I don’t know what practice will look like. But I’m also confident in myself, in how my high school coaching staff has prepared me and all the stuff that I’ve been through.”
