D’Wayne Wiggins, co-founder and guitarist of the R&B group Tony! Toni! Toné!, has passed away at the age of 64 after a year-long battle with bladder cancer. The news was confirmed by the band’s official Instagram account.

 

Born in Oakland, California, Wiggins, alongside his half-brother Raphael Saadiq and cousin Timothy Christian Riley, formed Tony! Toni! Toné! in 1986. The group achieved significant success in the late 1980s and 1990s with hits like “Anniversary” and “It Never Rains (In Southern California).”

 

After the group’s initial disbandment in 1996, Wiggins continued to influence the music industry by mentoring emerging artists, including Beyoncé and Destiny’s Child. He also collaborated with artists such as Alicia Keys and released a solo album in 2000.

 

In 2023, Tony! Toni! Toné! reunited for a tour and had plans to release new music before Wiggins’ passing.
