Injured hiker rescued by Trooper 5, Garrett first responders

OAKLAND — A hiker was rescued Saturday in a hoist mission after suffering a 40-foot fall at Swallow Falls State Park.

 

First responders included the Maryland State Police Trooper 5 helicopter, which lowered a trooper paramedic from the helicopter to the location of the patient after the incident was reported to the Garrett County 911 emergency center at about 1:40 p.m. by a friend of the victim.

 

Once stabilized, the hiker, who had fallen from the top of the falls, was flown to UPMC Western Maryland hospital in Cumberland.

 

Southern Rescue, Garrett County Emergency Services, Oakland Volunteer Fire Department and Natural Resources Police also responded to the incident upon alert by the emergency center.
