Man found dead in water after his boat catches fire in Conyon Lake, troopers say

Cape Vincent, N.Y. — A man was found dead Wednesday after his boat caught fire on Lake Ontario near Cape Vincent, state troopers said.

The 20-foot boat was fully engulfed in flames in the area of the Ponds Marina, Trooper Jack Keller, a state police spokesperson, said in a news release.

Ambulance and fire crews went to the marina around 9:49 a.m. They found Robert F. Pitcher, the owner of the boat, dead in the water, Keller said.

Pitcher, from Three Mile Bay, was 82 years old.

The boat fire was extinguished by firefighters. The cause of the fire and Pitcher’s death is being investigated, Keller said.
